Simone Bonavita currently serves as the Executive Director of the Information Society Law Center (ISLC) at the University of Milano. Within the University, he is also a key member of the Jean Monnet #DATAGOV project, which focuses on the legal framework surrounding data governance, cybersecurity, and digital fundamental rights. His academic commitment extends to postgraduate education, where he leads modules for various Master’s programmes at the University of Milan. His teaching covers a broad spectrum of modern legal challenges, including Data Protection & Data Governance, Computer Forensics and Digital Investigations, and Coding for Lawyers & Legal Tech. In addition to his academic roles, Simone is a practising lawyer at the Milan Bar and a member of the law firm Perani Pozzi Associati. His professional practice is primarily extrajudicial, providing strategic counsel to national and international groups, financial institutions, telecommunications companies, and digital agencies. As the digital landscape evolves, his expertise has become increasingly focused on the regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the implementation of the NIS2 Directive, and the complexities of cybersecurity. Simone’s academic foundation was laid at the University of Milano, where he graduated in Law with a focus on privacy and emerging technologies. He subsequently earned his LLM an PhD in New Technologies Law and Legal Informatics from the University of Bologna (CIRSFID), under the supervision of Professor G. Sartor. In 2017, he furthered his research as a Visiting Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence. A prolific author of numerous scientific publications, Simone is a frequent speaker at international conferences and seminars. His work continues to shape the dialogue on data processing, ISP liability, and the legal implications of digital communication.
